Find your calm in the storm.

Life can be ugly. There is no two ways to spell it out with any more truth. When life begins to rage like a hurricane, swirling into a category five destructive swirl of devastation, it is very difficult to stay calm and find a peaceful moment. These are the times we may feel like life is slipping away and a safe place is almost impossible to find.

However, you can control a situation when it seems far beyond possibility of regaining ground. Even when the chaos theory of life never being truly controllable stands to be evidently clear. For myself, years ago I found the value of Taoism to be calming belief system with less religious undertones and more factual common sense grounding.

Today I will share a small bit of this thought in forming an approach to harnessing chaos in calm.

Taoism teaches you are here now, firmly at the moment. Dancing from moment to moment. Instead of living in blame, shame or fear, Taoism believes that by embracing the ride of now, a person quickly learns: to let go of false attachments to past pains, learns building a future is just a way of deceiving oneself away from now. In this process of embracing life now, a person can let go enough to have a chance to see themselves truly by being present in their life. There is no denying that living in the past or chasing goals in the future can be a toxic trait that many of us hold onto.

If you are too busy holding on to the past or chasing the future, it is hard to take the time to see yourself clearly now.

A strange thing happens at this point. A person discovers all the internal fractures once considered to be flaws and weaknesses, which are actually beautiful. That in the light of living now, all aspects of our life makes us what we are, and that is wonderful. In living now, all futures are possible: opening up new “Possibilities” of 10,000 dreams where each one is valid, and it’s fun to play about, to flow as life weaves together into something unexpected. Because it’s always possible to accept who you are now. Inner Peace opens up as a person releases into their nature.

Letting go of the past is not easy but you will find it to be one of the most necessary steps to inner peace you can take in life.

Since being able to remember the past always gives strength to avoid issues but holding on too tight can be toxic and negative. We must make peace with our past misgivings and put them to bed, once and for all. So much strength can be gained through personal acceptance upon other viewpoints over our values and past experiences at times. Open your heart and mind. Try to see the past as a road taken in learning and growth but understand your new journey leaves the past in your rear-view mirror while traveling toward a new, peaceful, yet powerfully enlightened future. Taoist learn to let go of everything to see oneself clearly and to embrace oneself as is.

So how can we control the raging storm of life to find calm in the storm?

In time, acceptance comes at the point of relaxing into oneself in the present and accepting both past and future as merely circumstance. A Taoist mixes all aspects of themselves, to truly live as oneself, this means being fully human. In harmony with the past and future to now. You do not need to be a Taoist like myself but there is no denying this Taoist approach is a pretty safe way of navigating the turmoil and finding calm. Find your happiness. Find your inner peace. Be at one with yourself. The rest is up to you. Live well.
